Interupted & Disrupted Adoptions

An "interrupted adoption", sometimes called a "disrupted adoption", is when there are severe problems with a child's placement and the child must be removed from the adoptive home. This is a tragic and emotional situation for the child, but for the adoptive family, and all involved.

In our experience, interrupted adoptions are not caused by the adoptive families but by poor handling of the adoptive placement. Laws exist to ensure that adoptive parents have a child's medial and social background and the birth records of the child's mother so that the adoptive parents can make an informed decision. However, financial pressures on public agencies often result in lack of sufficient disclosure, minimizing serious issues, or guilting the prospective adoptive parents into disregarding these issue.

If you are involved in an adoptive placement which is not working, we understand the issues and can advise you of your options.
